In 1993, OPED introduced a concept that would change the way clinicians approach post-operative and conservative lower limb management: the vacuum orthosis. By encasing the foot and ankle in a precisely moulded vacuum cushion, VACOped provides a perfect anatomical fit for every patient, eliminating pressure points, improving comfort and enabling early functional loading.
Unlike traditional plaster casts or rigid boots, VACOped allows the clinician to set an adjustable range of motion, guiding controlled rehabilitation from the first post-operative day. Clinical evidence consistently shows that patients managed with VACOped return to weight-bearing and normal activity faster, with lower rates of complications such as muscle atrophy, joint stiffness and deep vein thrombosis.
